Gaul's unique brand of blackened doom truly sets them apart, in a crowded genre where everyone has heard Weakling and done their best imitation, and where everyone seems to think tuning slow and low and plugging into a million delay pedals creates atmosphere.

Perfecting their sound over their previous two full lengths, III sees Gaul continue down their solitary path. Miserable and stunning, here's what the Svbterranean had to say about the first single Passage:

if you are working today, chances are you are miserable. Your soul-crushing day job just seems much more unbearable knowing you are a few agonizing hours way from Labor Day weekend. Time just slows to a crawl and no amount of caffeinated beverages can keep you from passing out. Well, we at Svbterranean have the solution to all your troubles, and the answer is blackened doom.


Well, maybe it’s not a perfect solution, but you’ll at forget about how horrible your day is when you are being pulverized by lumbering, grimy doom metal. That’s where Florida’s Gaul and their new track “Passages” comes in.

This four-minute, sprawling, dissonant monstrosity will appear on the group’s forthcoming full-length, III, which is due out on October 13 via Dullest Records on a limited run of 150 screen printed tapes.
